Thank you to everyone who donated to our Match it! Fundraising Appeal
in support of the various fundraising ideas over the last three months. As
a result of your generosity, an incredible £4,064 has been raised for the
choir (taking into account JustGiving’s fees and Gift Aid).
In addition, One Community’s Match it! programme will provide ‘Match
Funding’ of £3,000.
We could not have done it without you!
Thank you to our four volunteers Carole Hepworth, Roger Wild, Chris Rogers and Chris Flanagan for taking part in our ‘Slim to Win’ sponsored diet fundraiser. The group lost an impressive combined total of 49lbs over an 11-week period! Thanks to everyone who has already donated. Your generosity has helped raise £280! For those who still wish to donate, you can do so via our JustGiving Campaign Page (please see below) which will remain open until midnight on 31 January 2021. Individuals may be sponsored at either £1 per pound (up to a maximum of 14lbs) or a fixed amount.
Happy New Year everyone! It was great to be back in rehearsal again this week and it was so good to see everyone. We certainly didn’t think we would still be online by now, but we are and we are still learning. It’s important we keep our voices in trim for when we get back to face to face rehearsals. We are really looking forward to seeing our audiences again and with some of our members already receiving the vaccine, hopefully it won’t be too long. We have just started a piece we first sang in 1995, so for some it is nice to revisit it, but for many it is a completely new piece. We can’t wait to share what we have been doing with you too. Finally, there is still time to donate to our choir Just Giving page, so do check it out. The deadline to receive matched funding is the end of January.

What will Christmas bring
If we’re not allowed to sing?
Will it just pass away
Like another winter day!
Will we have no Christmas Party
For our group so hale and hearty?
Should we feel sadness in our room
Or have a Virtual Meet on Zoom?
Steven can pick the songs
And we’ll all party on
But he should make the Zoom Call last a while
So we can do it all in style
“Unmute” say I
Let’s get the spirits high
Sing out and all feel free
It’s Christmas – can’t you see!
Let’s look forward one and all
We could really have a ball
Drinking Prosecco, wine or whisky
Might just even get us frisky
We can meet in costume guise
In a virtual paradise
And have lots of fun and share
If we will only dare
We’ve done so much this year
But let’s not shed a tear
About hope and aspirations
We’ll succeed – no hesitation!
(Thanks to Phil Kirkpatrick)

We are delighted to announce that we have been chosen to benefit as a Co-op Local Community Fund.
At a time when funds for community groups and charitable organisations are becoming more difficult to access, we are incredibly grateful for this opportunity to make a real difference in Huddersfield and its environs.
We are raising funds for our post Covid-19 preparations such as extra rehearsals (due to social distancing), a free concert for our community (once permitted to do so) and associated technology requirements.
This award will not only provide valuable support to the Choir, by contributing to physical and mental wellbeing, health and social life of the singing membership, but will also enable the Choir to meet its overall charitable aims and objectives of extending its community involvement, thereby benefitting the wider local community.
To help us raise vital funds, we’ll be relying on Co-op Members. When a member buys selected branded products and services, the Co-op will give a helping hand to local causes like ours.
Co-op members can select us as their local cause by visiting:
We really hope that people will visit the website and select us as their local cause.
It was terrific to welcome representatives from Fairfield School, our charity of the year to our zoom rehearsal on Tuesday to formally announce that the recent ‘Performathon’ raised just over £1800 for the school. Both the Head and Business Manager were delighted with the donation and thanked the choir for their continued support!
It was a real pleasure to welcome the Head of Engagement & Operations of the NHS Help Them Help Us charity to our rehearsal on Tuesday. Providing for the welfare & wellbeing of NHS staff on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were able to formally inform them of our Performathon donation which totalled £2979.94. Thank you to everyone who supported us!
We would like to send our best wishes to all of our members, supporters, sponsors, patrons, friends, family and our audience. We have not sung together since March, but have met online every week since then. It seems such a long time since we heard each others voices, but we will be back again one day soon. Have a good weekend everybody!

As a #charity, we are delighted to have received funding support from @TNLComFund part of the Government’s £750m support package for charities @DCMS. It has enabled us to continue to work as a choir, serving our community & fundraising for others during the #COVID19 lockdown. #COMMUNITIESCAN

A PROGRAMME SO WIDE
AND PRESENTED WITH PRIDE
ENCOURAGING FRIENDS AND RELATIONS

HONLEY SALUTES YOU INDEED
LET’S PRAY THE CHOIR CAN REMAIN
FOR THE DAY WHEN WE RISE AGAIN
THE PERFORMATHON HAS SHOWN – THAT OUR CHOIR’S REALLY GROWN
INTO ONE OF LOVE AND AFFECTION – AND MAYBE FOUND A NEW DIRECTION SO, IS THIS THE WAY TO GO – TO PERFORM A CHORAL SHOW?
THERE’S NEW MUSIC WE ARE LEARNING – BUT TO SING LIVE IS ALL WE’RE YEARNING
OUR REPERTOIRE HAS MANY CHOICES – AND LOCKDOWN HASN’T TAKEN OUR VOICES WHICH MEANS OUR HEARTS ARE FULL OF FIRE – TO RETURN AS HONLEY MALE VOICE CHOIR
WE CAN HOLD OUR HEADS UP HIGH – AND WE SHOULD TRY TO REACH THE SKY STEVEN’S RAISED THE BAR – TO GET US WHERE WE ARE
BUT THERE’S MUCH MORE TO BE DONE – AND WE’RE HAVING LOTS OF FUN (PK)
We have been very busy at Honley! It’s hard to believe we only have 13 days left of our fundraising Performathon. We have been really appreciative of all your support and encouragement. You can still donate by using the link on our website! We are still continuing to rehearse online, but as you can imagine it is not the same. Like many other choirs we are planning and preparing to return sometime soon, but we want to make sure that we have read all the guidance. Wish us luck! By the way, did you see us on BBC Look North? Didn’t we do well? It’ll be the big screen next!
A promo what? They all cried out
But Roger said he had no doubt
That with effort and talent we’d all aspire
And shouldn’t forget we’re Honley Male Voice Choir
We gave our best covering lots of arts
And skill and thrills with all our hearts
A twelve hour fest with all that’s best
Makes us stand proud above the rest
The Charities helped along the way
Will no doubt remember that wonderful day
When out of nowhere came a plan
To help the causes of our fellow man
Thanks to Phil K!
With less than 24 hours to go, we are all getting very excited about our ‘Performathon’ – another first for us as we attempt to live stream for 12 hours!
The choir has been rehearsing on-line for almost 6 months and has made two virtual recordings. We are very much looking forward to singing together again soon!
We shall be showcasing the many talents of our individual choir members in a sponsored event which tales place TOMORROW!
From #NoonTilMidnight we will be performing and raising money for charity.
Please, please, please donate! THANK YOU
With less than 5 days to go to our #Performathon #fundraiser we’re asking all our local followers & supporters to share & retweet our #event so we can beat our £5000 #target for our #charities @HelpThemHelpUs & @Fairfieldstweet
We have received a grant award from HMG National Lottery Community Fund. Honley Male Voice Choir are delighted to announce the award of grant assistance from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund, distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund.
Meirion Lewis (Chairman – Honley Male Voice Choir) is quoted as saying – “We are delighted to receive this generous award from HMG National Lottery Community Fund. Like many ‘not-for-profit’organisations, we are experiencing a severe impact on our usual income streams due to the current Covid-19 crisis.
In order to keep the choir together we are still employing our musical professionals who
are working hard to allow us to carry on rehearsing and maintaining the fellowship of the choir.
Our current focus is on providing support to both our members and supporters as we all navigate through this challenging and difficult time. Many of our members have been self-isolating or shielding in respect of Covid-19. We have introduced several initiatives including a support group of volunteers (under age 70) to deliver groceries, medical supplies or simply chat to those currently self-isolating; various WhatsApp groups, publication of weekly and monthly newsletters, weekly on line rehearsals using Zoom
technology and fortnightly virtual quizzes.
The choir also recently released two virtual performances, “We Rise Again” and “Loving Kindness”. “Loving Kindness” is Howard Goodall’s latest work and was written specifically for Aled Jones. We were delighted to welcome Howard Goodall to one of our recent weekly Zoom rehearsals and he confirmed that we were the first Male voice choir to release a virtual performance.
This award will not only provide valuable support to the Choir, by contributing to the wellbeing, health and social life of the singing membership, but will also enable the Choir to meet its overall charitable aims and objectives of extending its community involvement, thereby benefitting the wider local community.
Please continue to stay safe and take great care of yourselves and your loved ones”.

Whilst none of us in the choir ever thought we would be rehearsing on-line for so long, the real positive that has come out of this situation is that we have talked to each other more; connected on many more different levels than before. We have always been a ‘social’ choir, but we meet to sing and being on-line has created a different purpose. Yes, we still sing, but we do so much more and this feels good. we actually see each others faces now! In rehearsal our focus is on our MD, but now we see each other, we share so much more with each other! We, like every choir want to return to singing together. We miss the harmonies, the sound of our collective voices and we music the sound of music! One day soon!
We have maintained a really good connection with all of our members and supporters over the past 4 months and we want to thank everyone who has worked hard to keep us together, that has sent positive messages and has kept us singing!
We can’t meet yet and maybe the new normal will take some getting used to, but like all of our singing friends throughout the choral world we will be there for each other when we find our voice again!
Watch out for an announcement about an exciting fundraising project we have planned!
As we entered our 15th week of lockdown we were delighted to be inspired, humbled and encouraged this week when we welcomed composer Howard Goodall to our Tuesday rehearsal. In May we held intensive rehearsals and released the first male voice choir virtual recording of his piece ‘Loving Kindness;, written specially for Aled Jones. It was a joy to speak to him and hear how he went about composition. Thank you Howard, from a very inspired choir!
….and if that wasn’t enough we had our very own name check from Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney on Wednesday when he asked the Prime Minister when he could attend a HMVC concert again. We like many other choirs have been forced to rehearse and connect in isolation, so it was refreshing to hear someone stand up for us, as well as the many other arts organisations that are struggling. Thank you Jason, for your support.
