Hello Jason – Honley MVC have a New Accompanist
A warm welcome to Jason Hawkins who is our new Accompanist for the choir. Jason joined us in May and is readying himself for his first full concert with us at Almondbury Methodist Church on Saturday 6th June. He has joined us following the retirement of George Marsden ( who still plays with us occasionally) and is both a pianist and organist.
We also thank Michelle Sutcliffe for the work she has done with us as accompanist for the past 3 years and she will now become our Deputy MD. Michelle has long associations with the choir and has work with us for the past five years.
Jason, young fellow that he is, is a rising star….

His electrifying interpretations have led to numerous engagements throughout the UK and Europe. Jason works extensively throughout the UK as a freelance accompanist, teacher and choral animateur.

Jason also enjoyed an accompanist relationship with the BBC Philharmonic and BBC Singers being involved with projects at the Lowry Centre (Salford) and MediaCityUK.
The Exon Singers invited Jason as a guest organist for the 2012 Tavistock Festival (Devon) for an ‘Olympic Torch’ celebration where his improvisation on Howard Moody’s ‘Weigh Me The Fire’ drew many members of the audience to the organ console afterwards. Jason was re-engaged by the group in Salisbury later that year for another memorable evening.
During 2009 Jason performed Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2 alongside the Toruska Orkiestra Symfoniczna in Toru, Poland to great audience and critical acclaim. In 2012 Jason performed Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto in Alderley Edge (UK).

Following the RNCM Jason graduated from Manchester University in 2014 with first-class honours degree in music specialising in piano performance and electroacoustic composition. Jason has studied under many prominent and influential teachers including Duncan Glenday, Christopher Stokes, Dina Parakhina, Darius Battiwalla, Marta Karbownicka, Simon Bottomley, Joanna Patton and Peter Moore.
After the interval there was a piano masterclass by Jason Hawkins, who produced seven minutes of non-stop pure artistic, energetic fireworks with Chopin’s Polonaise in A flat resulting in a standing ovation.
He wowed and excited that audience with an explosion of energy and rapid fire finger-work and interpretation
