The Christmas HM edition had a lot of Christmas greetings included for which a small charge was made, to assist publication. It was decided by your committee to split this money 50/50 between the Choir and the ‘Forget me not Trust’ (Children’s Hospice). I am pleased to advise that I was able to deliver a cheque on your behalf for £125 recently, which was graciously and gratefully received.
Whilst on the subject of thanks, following an article on used postage stamps also in the last HM edition, many people have given me their collections from over the Christmas period, which I have forwarded on to ‘Marie Curie Cancer Care’.
We had a wonderful Christmas Concert at The Town Hall and I think the ‘Snee Waltzer’ could well become a standard concert ending for years to come!
Our recruitment sessions have produced up to press 8 new singers, bringing our singing membership up to 69. These new members have joined into all four sections of the Choir and are of course very welcome additions. We have just run a recruitment evening and another will take place on Tuesday June 10th. However on any practice evening, we are always glad to receive new potential members. Contact any choir member or via the website/email, both shown on the front page, or just turn up. I know from personal experience that it can seem initially daunting, but the welcome is always genuine, friendly and helpful. One new member recently told me that after singing a Male Voice Choir Standard (The Lost Chord) that he had never sung or even heard of before, those little hairs on the back of his neck went rigid. Long may it continue.
The Choir are busy practising for our major concert on May 31st with special guest Lesley Garrett. Between now and then we have two other engagements: a Rotary Senior Citizens Concerts at the Town hall and a ‘Friends Concert’ at St.Mary’s Church, Honley.
